Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 December
FAQs
General
Is there a registration fee?
No, there is no registration fee to take part in the virtual RNLI Reindeer Run.
How do I collect money for my chosen run?
When you sign up, your JustGiving fundraising page is automatically created for you and all donations collected on your page will come directly to the RNLI.
Simply add your own profile picture and explain why you’re taking on the RNLI’s Reindeer Run. Your fundraising page will then be ready to share with your friends and family so they can donate to support you and the RNLI’s volunteer lifesavers. Remember to include the hashtag #ReindeerRun when sharing your page online.
How do I pay in my fundraising?
All donations made to your JustGiving fundraising page will be automatically transferred to the RNLI, so you don’t need to do anything.
Is there a minimum amount I should raise?
Like many charities, RNLI income is down after one of the most challenging years for us all. So we are asking everyone who takes on the virtual Reindeer Run to try and raise an amazing £100/€100 or more if you can! Whatever you are able to raise, every penny or cent will help save lives at sea.
Where can I get reindeer antler headbands and red noses from?
You can buy reindeer antler headbands and red noses either as a set or individually from a variety of stockists online or you can check in your local shops.
Is there a hashtag I can use for sharing my progress online?
Yes! Please share your fundraising and challenge progress on your social media channels using hashtag #ReindeerRun.
What if I have questions?
Please email us at Reindeer_Run@rnli.org.uk and one of the team (or herd as Rookie the Reindeer likes to call us!) will be more than happy to help.
The challenge
What is the challenge?
You choose your own distance for the virtual RNLI Reindeer Run. If you’re a beginner or have young children, we recommend a shorter distance such as a 1K saunter or 5K fun run. If you’re more experienced, why not try a 10K run? Or push yourself even further and take on a half marathon (21K) or even a full marathon (42K)!
How does the challenge work?
The RNLI’s Reindeer Run is a virtual event taking place on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 December 2020. You decide where you want to complete your challenge. To sign up, simply choose your date. You’ll be asked to set your distance and fundraising targets on your JustGiving fundraising page, which is automatically created for you. Make sure you also add a profile picture and your reason for taking on this challenge for the RNLI. Then all you need to do is share your fundraising page with your friends and family to bring in those all-important donations! Remember to include the hashtag #ReindeerRun when sharing your page online.
Do I need to run on a specific day?
You can choose to run on either Saturday 12 or Sunday 13 December 2020. But if you want to spread a longer distance over the 2 days to challenge yourself even further, then go for it!
If it's not possible for you to complete your Reindeer Run over this weekend, you can choose any date in December up to Sunday 20 December to suit you.
Where is the Reindeer Run taking place?
This year’s Reindeer Run is a virtual event. This means you decide on where to complete your challenge. Whether that’s your favourite park, your garden, or even the treadmill!
Is there an age limit to take part?
To take part - no. To register online - yes. The virtual RNLI Reindeer Run is a festive run for people of all ages and abilities. The person signing up to the fundraising event online must be 18 or over but younger people in their household or support bubble can take part with them.
Can I take part as a team?
You need to sign up individually online to take part in the RNLI Virtual Reindeer Run. But you can still run with members of your own household or support bubble. When taking part, please make sure you follow the latest government coronavirus guidelines in your area, including social distancing and social gatherings.
Which apps can I to use to track my distance?
You can track your steps using a number of different apps, including Strava, Fitbit and MapMyFitness. You can also connect some fitness tracking apps to your JustGiving fundraising page to show your progress instead of updating this manually.
I use a wheelchair. Can I still take part?
